The Epiphany Episcopal curriculum created for students by a team of carefully-chosen educators. This Classical approach to education introduces a breadth and depth of many traditions to more effectively teach children how to think, not to what to think. In addition, Epiphany Episcopal features two research-proven methods shown to improve a child’s ability to think, reason, create and express.
Language Immersion
Research shows that early and ongoing exposure to a variety of languages increases thinking and concept development skills. Students are introduced to Spanish and French in Kindergarten. Latin is introduced in grade 3 for the language’s high correlation to learning English. In addition, Epiphany Episcopal School will offer advanced levels of German, French and Spanish. Additional languages, such as Chinese, Japanese and Russian will be added in 2010 to help children thrive in an increasingly pluralistic society.
Singapore Math
The Singapore Math approach was developed with concepts used in Singapore, where children consistently rank in the highest percentile in the world for math proficiency. The approach emphasizes the use of physical objects over traditional methods of teaching math by memorization, recitation and review. Concepts that traditionally took an entire semester to cover are now covered, understood and mastered by students in one month. The method also helps children “visualize” math concepts, and to quickly solve problems in their head, without a calculator, paper or pencil.
